The Owners’ Story
Rick completed IRONMAN Florida (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run) after having suffered a traumatic auto accident in 1991. The accident shattered his left femur causing him to need a wheelchair for 2 months and to undergo 15 surgeries. He also suffered severe 3rd degree burns which led to skin grafts from his thighs. During that time, his home health nurse became a close friend. They still communicate more than 20 years later.
Rick was drawn to BrightStar Care® as a result of his personal experience as a home healthcare patient and his extensive background serving in the hospital industry for more than 15 years.
Rick is a Lean Six Sigma Expert and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (www.ache.org) . He has consulted at some of the most prestigious hospitals in the nation helping them reduce readmission rates. In November 2012, hospitals will be penalized in Medicare reimbursements if they do not decrease their number of readmissions. The BrightStar Care® HANDS program (Hospital Accelerated Nurse Discharge Service) has been established to assist hospitals achieve this goal.
Amy has worked over 15 years in the service industry for Delta Airlines, State Farm Insurance, and most recently Langstaff Marketing, a boutique marketing agency in Albany, GA. She is a graduate of Shelby High School and The University of Georgia and has also competed and placed in several triathlons including the Half-Ironman Florida.
In addition to a hospital staffing and home healthcare option for older and disabled adults, BrightStar Care® offers a KidCare component. Unlike a traditional babysitter, the BrightStar KidCare caregivers are CPR certified, bonded, insured, background checked and trained. They can come into the home and offer anywhere from 1 hour to 24 hour care. They can even go on a trip with a family to supervise a child or children while the parents attend to other activities or obligations. KidCare caregivers can also offer support to parents of children on the Autism spectrum or with Down Syndrome.
