Any time, anything. When you need a helping hand, this Caregiver of the Year finalist is waiting with an open mind and a giving heart. Melanie Schmitt* and husband Brad* found that special someone willing to put herself second and their needs first. Caregiver Melissa Meyers of the BrightStar Care of Boise home care agency is all these things, and a little bit more.
“Melissa has never been late or turned us down when we have asked her to work longer hours or extra days,” Melanie said. “She is always cheerful and upbeat even when I have known she didn’t feel well.” Meyers, the West Regional Finalist, is there every step of the way for Brad, who’s been through the health ringer.
Brad has suffered six strokes and needs lots of extra attention. Meyers not only has the will go the extra mile, she has the knowledge to make all the right moves. “Melissa is very knowledgeable concerning care for others,” Melanie said. “She sees to my husband’s every need and does everything for him in a way that makes him feel comfortable.”
Meyers shows solid initiative as well, often cleaning the kitchen or doing the laundry without being asked. Dusting, vacuum, preparing the beds, etc., there isn’t anything she can’t or won’t do, Melanie said. “If Brad wants to get out of the house and get some fresh air, Melissa will take him for a walk in his chair as he can’t walk or go by himself,” Melanie said. “Brad and I think of Melissa as a daughter. She is a so loving and kind that our children also think of her as family. Even our animals wait for her to come.”
The ultimate caregiver in control of her assigned space, Meyers prepares the house, cleans everything and fixes meals for out-of-town company. Meyers takes pride in her work and doesn’t stop until the job is perfect. “I would trust her with any and all I have,” Melanie said. “Melissa is the most honest, trustworthy, loving person we know. She deserves any honor you can bestow on her.”
