On a beautiful spring day in 2008 I, Carolyn, joined Tim for his Meals On Wheels deliveries. Tim had delivered to seniors for years and been recognized in the paper several times. As we walked through the senior highrise development, we began talking about the needs of the residents and the needs of ‘Our Greatest Generation’.
I thought back on how my family had brought my grandmother to live with us when she could no longer live alone. In the late 1960’s there was no homecare that would have allowed her to stay in her home. I had loved taking care of my grandmother and still cherish the time I had with her and the many stories she told me. Tim had grown up in a family business. His family had put together catheters which his father sold to hospitals and medical distributors. Through the growing medical supply business Tim experienced the special needs of many quadriplegic and other medically fragile people who spent more time in the hospital than they cared to and he recognized their great need for good medical care at home.
That day began our search for BrightStar, a homecare model that has the highest standards for quality care. Whether the need is an elderly person requiring minimal assistance to be able to stay at home instead of relocating to assisted living or even a nursing home or, a younger person whose situation requires nursing care or anything in between. We wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.
