Susan Rather | Owner
I hold a bachelor’s degree in medical technology from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, and a master’s degree in human relations from Oklahoma University. I have 25 years experience working in medical facilities and laboratories in Alabama, California, Colorado, Germany, and Wisconsin. Before opening the BrightStar business with my husband, Jeff, I was the Laboratory Manager at the Veteran’s Hospital in Madison. While this is a second career for me, helping out families in need and providing quality jobs for our great staff is the most meaningful and rewarding work I’ve ever done.
Jeff Tews | Owner
I earned my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota, and spent 30+ years in corporate positions at US West, Qwest and US Bank. A re-organization of US Bank started my search for an opportunity to run a small business. When Susan and I heard about BrightStar, we decided it was a perfect opportunity to help families, create jobs, and establish a business in this growing industry.
Linda Bruck | Director of Nursing
I have been a registered nurse for over 40 years, providing care in long term facilities, medical clinics, hospitals, and family practice clinics. I am passionate about helping folks stay in their home by finding the best solutions for their needs. This includes their social and cultural needs, as well as their medical/physical requirements; I feel strongly about the overall big picture of our clients’ lives. I enjoy working with the rest of the BrightStar team to find the best solutions for our clients.
Wendy Sulzer | Branch Manager
After earning a journalism degree from UW-Oshkosh, my first real-world job was planning activities for residents of a nursing home and later a memory care community. From there I have held several marketing positions related to health care, and spent five years helping families explore housing options at a large retirement community including assisted living, memory care and independent living. I have always found working with older adults rewarding, but helping them reach their goal of returning to or staying at home is the best part of working at BrightStar. I use my journalism training to ask good questions to learn as much as I can about our new clients and share that information with our nurses and care managers who will provide the ongoing support for that client and his or her family.
Margo Collins | RN Case Manager
I have been involved in the healthcare field for 30 years. I was a CNA for six years prior to becoming an RN. This experience was my inspiration to become a registered nurse. My nursing background also includes orthopedic, cardiac and nursing home experience. Most recently, I spent ten years at an ambulatory surgery center. I have known Susan and Jeff personally for years, and respect the values and integrity they bring to all they are involved with. When the opportunity arose for me to become part of the BrightStar team, I accepted without hesitation. I am proud and excited to be part of this high quality organization!
Beth Hennes | RN Case Manager
Although I’ve only been working at BrightStar Care in the Case Manager role for about a year, I had been taking individual, skilled cases from BrightStar for several years prior as they would fit around other nursing positions I’ve held. I love being a case manager at BrightStar because of the variety of people I get to meet and help. In my spare time, I’m very passionate about fitness and wellness, coaching youth teams and teaching classes as my schedule allows.
Julie Schultz | Social Worker
I earned my bachelor’s degree in social work from UW-Oshkosh. Initially, I worked with developmentally disabled adults in group homes. Following this, I worked in nursing/rehab facilities. I have extensive experience working in geriatrics in a medical setting. I have made many referrals to Bright Star in the last five years due to the quality of care that they offer. When I had the opportunity to be part of the team here, I didn’t hesitate!
Ellie Kachel | Operations Manager
I began my career as a CNA for BrightStar Madison in 2007. Working one-on-one with our clients helping them retain their independence helped me realize my passion for healthcare administration. I continued my education at UW-Madison, earning a bachelor’s degree in Consumer Affairs in Business. In 2010 my studies brought me to the BrightStar office as a Customer Care Manager. Beginning in 2013, I transitioned into the role of Office Administrator. It has been an amazing experience growing with BrightStar, I can’t wait to see where the future takes us.
Justin Olson | Director of Staffing Sales
After five years in the Marine Corps, I started my career in Phoenix, Arizona, as a receptionist for a small healthcare staffing company in the early 1990’s. I soon was responsible for six offices in Arizona, California and Oregon. I went on to become a founding member of one of the largest nurse traveling services in America. Recently I was working as a consultant to a number of young healthcare staffing companies in California. Now I am back home in Wisconsin and a proud member of the BrightStar family.
