Providing RN oversight on every case from day one
Gina Maki, BSN, RN, DON
How long have you been a Nurse? I have been in Health Care for over 30 years and a Registered Nurse for 28 of those years. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of healthcare settings: Clinical, Research, Business, Educational, and Leadership. What experience do you bring to BrightStar Care®? Clinically I was very compassionate with Cardiovascular Services, particularly CHF Management with infusion clinic, inpatient education, outpatient education, and support group. I have had many opportunities to provide training, education and public speaking on CHF management. In addition, I managed a NIH clinical trial with Yale University, utilizing technology to decrease CHF readmissions. As a Clinical Educator for a Wellness Company, I developed an orientation program to train clinical and sales staff. My experience working with the IT department gave me the opportunity to develop modules to successfully support implementation of new technologies to improve outcomes in healthcare. I also have had the opportunity to mentor new nurses as a clinical instructor, primarily doing rotations in Skilled Nursing Facilities. Training and mentoring is key to clinical success. Recently, I worked as a Director of Nursing for a 92 bed facility, managing staff, budgets, and Chaired the system wide Infection Control Committee. The diverse experiences in all these areas have prepared me to be an advocate for clients. In all the professional experiences the common theme of my work has been to improve efficiency of processes, maintain and/or decrease costs, and increase quality. What aspect of your job are you most passionate about? I am passionate in empowering individuals to successfully navigate the healthcare system to maintain optimal health and live in their homes. I provide A Higher Standard of Care for our BrightStar Care® clients by… Providing a high standard of care to all of my patients, and advocating for all those in need and using my knowledge to educate them, so that they better understand themselves.
