Brightstar Care of Montgomery County Sponsors Sibley's Journey to Hope Alzheimer's Caregiver Conference

Brightstar Care of Montgomery County is proud to sponsor the Sibley Senior Association’s, Journey to Hope Program for Alzheimer’s Caregiver Conference, held on October 30, 2021 for 125 registrants.   The speakers included a diverse lineup of experts in this field who shared heartfelt clinical and practical information to help everyone caring for someone with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease!

Ester Seunghee Oh, M.D., Ph.D.  who is the Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Memory and Alzheimer’s Treatment Center.  Dr Oh shared her expertise of clinical care for older adults and ongoing research on the development of biomarkers of different stages of dementia.   She also spoke about the effect of Covid 19 on older patients and some of the ongoing clinical work Hopkins is doing.

Diane Martin, PhD, who is a professor at University of Maryland on Geriatrics and Gerontology Education and Research, spoke about how dementia and Alzheimer’s can change communication and discussed ways to get the message across that will reduce resistance to care.

Shimoda Donna Emanuel, author of Sacred Stitches, the Art of Caregiving, shared the joys and trials of her personal experience of caring for her mother who lives with Alzheimer’s disease.  She talked the importance of self-care and carving out time for meditation, exercise and the ways she finds time to give attention to her art and work.
