Main Reason you enjoy working for BrightStar: I love being able to light up lives by making more possible, it’s very rewarding! Although I take care of physical needs as a CNA, my job isn’t limited to just physical care. I take on many different roles to enhance my client’s lives. I have done housekeeping, cooking, running errands, putting together a special valentine’s dinner for a married couple where I pretended to be their waitress, brought in a crafts for them to make, entertained grandchildren so they can visit with their grown children, etc. To me, my job is about living life with my clients and being their friend as I find ways to make them laugh and smile. Working for BrightStar gives me creative opportunities to enrich the lives of those I work for. Lighting up my client’s lives also lights up mine!

Interests Outside of Work:

Spending time on the greenbelt whether it’s walking with a friend, riding my bike, or sitting by the riverbank and unwinding after a crazy week. I also enjoy hiking and snowshoeing with friends. I also enjoy photography; it captures a moment and holds it for a lifetime.

Advice for other Caregivers:

Learn your client’s personality and preferences and adapt to them. If they aren't a “chatty Kathy” learn to keep quiet while still meeting their physical needs. If they tell corny jokes you don’t think are that funny, laugh anyways. BrightStar gives us the opportunity to be creative, so see how you can enhance their lives and be a Bright Star in their lives!

Main Reason You Enjoy Your Work: . I am thankful I work in the field which I take pleasure in. It is easy to find enjoyment in your work when you live for what you do. I benefit greatly from my work because caring for others and making them happy, as well as healthy, is what I enjoy doing. It is especially rewarding to know that you are helping to make the lives of others easier. The most enjoyment comes from seeing my patients smile.

Interests outside of Work: Outside of work I enjoy spending time with and caring for my grandmother. I love the outdoors and have a passion for health; a great deal of my free time is spent hiking with my three Chihuahuas. Traveling is also a great interest of mine. It is so exciting to see a new place and experience a different culture. Since education is imperative to me, I continue to expand my knowledge in health at Boise State University and will obtain my second bachelor's degree this August in Psychology.
