At Home 4th of July Activities for Seniors

Wondering how to make the most of America’s Independence Day with your elderly loved one? The 4th of July is a great time to get patriotic and there’s no reason seniors have to miss out on the festivities! While not all aging loved ones are able to participate in all of the traditional activities, it’s important to involve them in holiday celebrations to make them feel included, connected and engaged. Check out these ideas for senior friendly 4th of July activities that can be enjoyed right at home. 

 * Conduct a Movie Marathon 

Ask your elderly loved one about their favorite classic American films and create a patriotic cinematic experience right at home.

 * Assemble a Flag Puzzle

Puzzles are a great way to keep your aging loved one mentally engaged. A 4th of July themed puzzle is a perfect way to celebrate while keeping things calm and low stress.

 * Get Crafty 

Gather some supplies and make fun and festive crafts like paper flags, red white and blue tie dye or bring out the paint and decorate wine glasses, vases and photo frames. 

 *  Make a Patriotic Dessert 

Get creative with a patriotic dessert! Make red white and blue Jell-O or assemble fruit skewers with watermelon, blueberries and bananas. 

 * Watch Fireworks on TV 

In person fireworks can sometimes not be the best environment for seniors because It’s often loud and crowded. Watching fireworks on TV can be a great alternative for seniors to still enjoy the festivities without all the chaos.
