Congratulations to Our Employee of the Month: Nina Bagsit, Caregiver!

August 2, 2022

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A CAREGIVER?

I've been a Caregiver since 2010. I was a Caregiver for 10 years in Israel.  That provided me with the opportunity to come to California.  I have been with BrightStar Care for 3 years. This is my second time as EOM and I am so grateful for all the blessings!

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME A CAREGIVER?

I have dreams and goals in life.  I am originally from the Philippines, where I grew up with my big family.   I have seen my parent’s hardships just to provide for the needs of our family. That keeps me thinking about how I can help? Now, I have my own family and I want my son to have a good life, and education that I did not receive.  I want to know what the future holds for me. I dreamed something different so I decided to look for a job and in Israel the only work I can apply for was to be a Caregiver. I am not professionally educated in this but I had experience as the older sister and managing the household work.  I thought it's the same but I was WRONG!  When I started working all the knowledge that I had gained for caring for my siblings goes into real caregiving and I needed to learn more and add more efforts into caring for Clients, and their families.

WHAT ASPECT OF YOUR JOB ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?

I believe being a Caregiver comes from within. I wanted to help Clients to feel better. I think applying new ideas will definitely help to improve your career. Be open while developing how to grow taking one step at a time. Think about what's best next?  How can I encourage my clients to be positive in their lives every day. I love what I am doing, and the bond I have developed with my Clients.  I enjoy meeting new people, and discovering and understanding different personalities. It’s fun to listen to their stories which always fascinate me.

HOW ARE YOU MAKING MORE POSSIBLE FOR YOUR BRIGHTSTAR CLIENTS?

I always apply the 5 Core Values of BrightStar Care:

  • Be Open and Positive
  • Serve with Passion
  • Do the Right Thing
  • Do What You Say
  • Make it Great

I'm just being ME!  For me what you see is what you get.  It’s hard to pretend to be the person you're not. It will require a lot of effort, so be who you are and serve honestly.  Treat your work place with respect.  Apply how you want to be treated.  Accept responsibilities, and handle things right.  I know that Clients rely on my capabilities.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER CAREGIVERS?

Be patient.  Respect your Client’s behavior and character. Everyone is unique and different.  Clients all have their own individual personalities. Select the best and suitable care that matches their needs. Bring out the best in yourself and give this to your Clients.  I think your attitude, happiness, optimism, kindness and giving are all your CHOICES and whatever choice you make MAKES You!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE CAREGIVING STORY

I never regret a decision to be on this particular path. There's good days that give me happiness, bad days that give me experience, and the worst days that give me lessons. Most importantly the Best days gives me MEMORIES!  Memories that I will cherish and keep in my heart that no one can ever have but ME.

HOW DO YOU RE-ENERGIZE?

Sleep…..A lot of sleep. When it's my day off I want to stay in bed late and catch up from all the days that I got up early. I give myself a peaceful time, and a completely restful day.

FROM BRIGHTSTARCARE’S CLIENTS

Truly a "Mother Theresa" of Caregivers

"When our father fell ill, we reached out to BrightStar Care for help. They sent us an "Angel" in Nina.  From day one, Nina was much more than we expected. She is patient, confident, attentive, supportive, compassionate, creative, dependable, and most importantly, a new good friend to our father who enjoyed her care and stories. Nina spent the better part of the year as our father’s main caregiver. We were then blessed again with Nina's care after our mother suffered a stroke last year. Nina has also developed a positive relationship with our Mother from her time with Dad's care. Nina was quickly able to empathize with the needs of a “stroke victim."*** Jennings Family
