CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR JUNE 2020 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH!

MIRANDA RODRIGUEZ, LVN

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AN LVN?  I have been an LVN for 3 years now and I am currently enrolled in an ADN RN program.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME A NURSE? My whole life I have always wanted to help others, care for them, make sure that they are okay.  I have always been very empathetic and when I see people that need help I want to be there for them.  As I grew up I explored occupations that would be enjoyable to me.  Nursing is the career I chose because I was able to be myself and help others on a daily basis and make a living for myself and my family.

WHAT ASPECT OF YOUR JOB ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?  I am most passionate about ensuring my patients retain dignity and have reassurance during their times of need.  As a nurse most times you work with people at their most vulnerable moments.  I feel very passionate about supporting my patients and ensuring they feel confidence and reassurance during this time.

HOW ARE  YOU MAKING MORE POSSIBLE FOR  YOUR BRIGHTSTAR CLIENTS?  The way that I make more possible for my clients is by showing up and being reliable.  I believe by doing this I help create a safe and reliable environment for my client and it enables me to create a better nurse patient relationship and create more trust and bonding with my clients.  Once this is achieved my clients will be able to persevere and have a better quality of life.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER NURSES/LVNs?  To my fellow nurses I have the following advice: ensure that you educate yourself on your client's condition and needs before interacting with them, ensure you have proper knowledge and never shy away from asking questions to ensure that you provide the best possible care.  Lastly, ensure that you are aware of yourself and make sure that you are in the correct frame of mind to provide care to others, as nurses we are constantly putting other people's needs before our own and it is important to ensure we are not burning ourselves out.  It is important to always check in on yourself before going to provide care for a patient, this way everyone wins.  You are in a good place mentally and the patient is receiving optimal care.  If you feel you are not in the right head place, reach out to supervisors, have open communication, remember to use our positive coping skills.

TELL US YOUR FAVORITE NURSING MOMENT/STORY – I have so many wonderful memories as a nurse all revolving around seeing my client's succeed, heal, find joy.  Most recently this moment came when my client chose to share a remarkable stride in recovery with me.  Being able to share in the joy with my client and knowing I was a part of the process for success and my client achieving more in her life.

HOW TO YOU RE-ENERGIZE?  This is an essential part of health care work.  We are constantly giving and ensuring that other's are being taken care of, it is important to take care of ourselves and re-energize as well.  I make sure to have 1 day to myself, a day that I can sleep in and relax.  During the week I get 3 days in of cardio - walking, jogging, some type of movement to keep myself feeling healthy and getting endorphins running in my body.  I do my best to get enough sleep, and my personal favorite is to start my mornings off with a nice warm cup of coffee.  It puts a nice positive spin on my day.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT MIRANDA FROM THE BRIGHTSTAR CARE CONEJO VALLEY OFFICE STAFF:

“Miranda has been with us a few years now and she has been one of our dearest and most requested LVNs.  She is always gracious and a 100% team player, always putting the needs of her Clients on top.  We have never ever had a Client that has not raved about Miranda’s nursing skills and disposition.  She has all of the ideal qualities:  positivity, compassion, reliability, flexibility, warmth and grace.  Miranda is also a beautiful mother of 3 who seamlessly balances motherhood and her career. She is truly a role model and we are blessed to have her on our team.”

AND FROM HER CURRENT BRIGHTSTAR CARE CLIENT, ALTHOUGH WE HAVE HAD MANY RAVE REVIEWS OVER THE YEARS:

“This time has been extremely difficult for me but when Miranda  arrives I feel so much more at ease. Several times I cried about my condition  and each time she was there to comfort me. She’s like a little sister but wise like an older sister. She goes above every time when she’s here, nothing is too big or too small. Her coming in at midnight when needed is a huge help. She always arrives with a smile.  Miranda has such a kind, gentle, professional nature. She is very intelligent and has a very calm attitude with everything. The only good thing about being paralyzed is meeting Miranda.”

MIRANDA will be a WEST COAST CANDIDATE FOR NURSE OF THE YEAR. ONE EMPLOYEE WILL BE SELECTED FROM EACH REGION TO BECOME A BRIGHTSTAR NATIONAL FINALIST…PLEASE SEE INSPIRATIONAL VIDEOS OF PAST REGIONAL CAREGIVER WINNERS, LINKED BELOW…
