Choosing a Blood Pressure Monitor

March 5, 2018
For Memphis seniors, buying a blood pressure monitor can be tricky and confusing. The American Heart Association advises that you consult with your doctor on which is best for using at home, but that a lot of Memphis seniors use an automatic, cuff, upper arm style. Before you buy a monitor, do your research to make sure that the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation and International Protocol for the validations of Automated BP Measuring Devices has given it their stamp of approval. Memphis seniors are encouraged to test the cuff out to ensure that it fits, as there are different sizes. As always, keep communication lines open with your doctor, and create a system that you can have ongong date of your numbers at home that you can share with your doctor. Be open and ask questions if you are unsure how to operate your monitor, or any other maintenance with your blood pressure.
