Cari Sanders | Director of Operations Cari Sanders, RN and Director of Operations, has been with BrightStar Care of Gastonia since April 2014. She started at the age of 17 as a CNA with Llanfair Retirement Community in Cincinnati, Ohio, where her mother was the Director of Nursing. She went to the University of Cincinnati for Business Marketing/Management and graduated in 1990. During her 15 years for the CCRC, she decided to go to nursing school. She graduated in 1999, and began working at Christ Hospital. Marriage and two kids later, she decided to leave the hospital setting and put her marketing and management skills to the test. So, she went to work 8 years for a private physical therapy company in Cincinnati until she was approached to partner with colleagues on starting a new home care company in the area. Once established, her family was asked to transfer to Charlotte, North Carolina for her husband's position of 38 years with Duke Energy as Manager of Safety and Health. Cari has had an early found love for geriatrics, and has continued with servicing that population through-out her entire professional career.

Pam Boswell, RN | Director of NursingPam is a native of Illinois, wife, mother of two, and grandmother of one brings over 20+ years of healthcare experience to BrightStar Care. As a child, her dream was to become a nurse, following the footsteps of her grandmother and mother, who were both CNA's. Pam started her healthcare journey in 1995, where she began working at Gaston Memorial Hospital (GMH) as a CNA. During her 12 years for GMH, she continued her education and received her diploma in Medical Office Transcription in 1999. In 2006 she decided to go to nursing school. After obtaining her LPN she went to work for Peak Resources in 2009 and continued there while she obtained her RN. In 2014, she left Peak and began working for BrightStar Care. She plans to further her education to obtain her BSN in the near future. Pam's continued passion to help people and provide quality care for people in the community make her a great part of BrightStar Care.
Natalie Myers | Community Liaison Natalie comes from the Hocking Hills of Ohio. She relocated to the Carolinas in 2015 after starting her family. While starting college at just the age of 16, she also became a Caregiver for Ohio Health Hospice Services. After multiple years of care giving, she found her passion to be within the senior retirement industry where she worked as a Program Coordinator for an Alzheimer’s Unit to enhance their purpose and abilities as the disease progressed. During her time as a Program Coordinator, Natalie became a member of the Gaston County Alzheimer’s Association Walk Committee, where she strived to reach out and educate the community on how they can participate in helping find a cure for Alzheimer’s. Natalie was introduced to Brightstar Care through her professional colleagues. She believes in Brightstar's standards - be open and positive, serve with passion, do the right thing, do what we say, make it great - and looks forward to sharing those standards out in the communities served by the company.
Michelle Flowers | Assistant Director of Nursing and Clinical Specialist Michelle Flowers, RN, BSN is the Assistant Director of Nursing and Clinical Specialist at BrightStar Care® of Gastonia. She is a wife of 17 years and mother of three boys. Michelle brings 20+ years of healthcare experience and knowledge to the company.
Michelle first developed the desire to be in the medical industry and help people when she was a little girl. She began by obtaining an Associate of Science Degree in Medical Assisting in 1998. However, when she had her first child she was impacted greatly by the nurses who cared for her and her child. Michelle developed the desire to impact and touch the lives of others the way her nurses touched her. Michelle obtained her Associates of Science Degree in Nursing and was awarded her RN in 2006. She served her community in the hospital setting for ten years. In 2016, Michelle achieved her Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing. During this journey, she learned of different avenues for nurses to assist the community. She decided to serve her community by assisting clients in maintaining their independence in their homes and aiming to prevent hospital admissions. Home healthcare, with BrightStar Care®, has allowed Michelle a rewarding and special way to express and fulfill her passion for nursing excellence and her commitment to the community.
Julie Self | Nurse Case Manager Julie grew up just outside of Gaston County in Lincolnton, NC. She is a wife, mother of three, and brings her 18 years of healthcare experience to BrightStar Care®. She began her healthcare journey as a CNA I on the medical/surgical unit of Gaston Memorial Hospital. She became a CNA II in 2003 and transferred to the Birthplace at Gaston Memorial Hospital, where she worked until becoming an RN in 2010. Julie started her RN career at White Oak Manor of Kings Mountain as an RN Supervisor. She worked with the Humana at Home program and gained experience in the home health world as a Case Manager. She came to BrightStar in March of 2018 and works daily to ensure our seniors live safely and independently as possible in the home. Julie's favorite saying is "Be confident yet humble".
