Seniors Grab Their Sunscreen in Austin’s Summer Heat

The Sun is Necessary For Life But Can Take Its Toll on Seniors

UV rays gives us the light and heat we need to survive. However, too much exposure to Ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can lead to skin cancer — especially melanoma, the deadliest form.

Austin Senior’s should be smart this summer and protect themselves from harmful Ultraviolet rays. The sun emits radiation as UV-A and UV-B rays. Both can do serious damage to your skin and eyes.

Learning the risks associated with excessive sun exposure and taking the right precautions to protect your skin can help everyone enjoy summer safely!

Some of the risks of excessive sun exposure are:
  • Vision Impairment
  • Premature Aging of the Skin
  • Suppression of the Immune System
  • Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the most dangerous of these listed. It affects over 4 million Americans every year and causes about 10,000 deaths. This is a perfect time for us to highlight The Shade Project!
