Talking With Your Parents About Their Care

April 2, 2022

When it is time to talk about Home Care with your Parents Here is Help

If you feel your mom, dad, or other loved ones could benefit from home care or are unsafe at home alone; then the next step is to talk with them. To help make the conversation about care easier for both of you, we've prepared a list of questions to ask and some dos and don'ts.

Download the Starting Care Guide HERE

The guide will help get the conversation started, and when you are ready, someone at our BrightStar Care® location is available to help you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A BrightStar Care nurse and a care team member will come to your home to get to know you and your loved one, discuss their care needs and answer any questions. The nurse will conduct a health and wellness evaluation and begin building a personalized plan of care based on your input and your loved one's needs. Call to schedule a free in-home assessment with a BrightStar Care nurse today @ 512-452-9800.A Home Care Assessment helps determine the plan of care based on your loved one's needs.

Our Registered Nurse at BrightStar Care will oversee and verify your loved one's care needs and conduct supervisory visits to ensure caregivers follow the care plan. Our Director of Nursing ensures caregivers maintain high-quality care standards, and one of our RNs, LPNs, or LVNs will answer questions you may have about your loved one's health condition. They will review care notes submitted by our caregivers to monitor progress, change in condition, and look for medication side effects.

When it is time to get home care, we can help. We will help you talk with your loved one about options. Choosing the right home care agency is essential. These are some of the benefits of having a nurse involved with in-home care: Our nurse will:

  • Answer questions about medical conditions and treatment
  • Provide skilled medical services
  • Help modify your loved one's home to make it safer
  • Recognize medication side effects
  • Assist in coordinating medical services
