Life Expectancy Study: Scottsdale has the Highest Life Expectancy in the Valley!

Where you live could add years to your life.  According to a study by Virginia Commonwealth University and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, there are communities in the Valley just 15 minutes apart that have a 15-year difference in life expectancy. Jon Ford, who is with the Vitalyst Health Foundation in Phoenix, says that socioeconomic status is part of the equation, and also states that "Health is a function of place. It's about a physical place manifesting disease in people's lives that's cutting their lives short."

Air quality, freeways access and distance to stores and hospitals can influence the outcome of your life expectancy. The Valley's highest life expectancy is in Scottsdale at 85 years. This the lowest in 71 years in an area which includes parts of South Phoenix.

"The choices we make are based on the choices we have. If you live in a neighborhood that doesn't have options or choices to be healthy, it is very difficult to be healthy in the long run” states Ford.
