How to aid retired seniors boredom over the New Year Season - Fear not because BrightStar Care has some great ideas for you.

Scottsdale is full of activities and services for seniors looking to get out and about and fill their days with fun. Most of us think it would be great to never work again, but for retired seniors boredom can set in quickly. Keep your senior loved one healthy and active by encouraging participation in the local 65+ community. Scottsdale is full of activities and services for seniors looking to get out and about and fill their days with fun.

BrightStar Care Recommends the Following:

Senior Games
  1. Bridge. If your senior loved one is a bridge player, both the Granite Reef and Via Linda Senior Centers have multiple, ABL sanctioned games ongoing throughout the week in addition to social bridge games. Fees apply for sanctioned bridge games.
  2. Billiards and Table Tennis. Both of the local Scottsdale senior centers have billiards rooms offering tournament quality equipment and tables. Drop-in billiards is free and open to the public. Table tennis times are schedule, but free and available to all levels of play.
  3. Senior Softball. Batter up! Senior softball is in full swing. Batting practice and games are held on Tuesday and Friday mornings at various fields throughout Scottsdale. Drop-in senior softball is free, and play is subject to field availability.
Senior Arts
Both Scottsdale Senior Centers offer a wide variety art classes and workshops. Free art education programs are also offered through Scottsdale Public Art, Phoenix Art Museum, and Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. Seniors are also encouraged to attend social art events like art fairs and gallery shows.

Senior Health and Wellness Services
Both senior centers provide walk-in weekly blood pressure screenings, and The Granite Reef Senior Center has partnered with Concerned Citizens for Community Health to provide canes, walkers, wheel chairs, and other various medical equipment for a small monthly rental fee.  Seniors can also participate in the MATTER of BALANCE program designed to increase fitness and strength, improve balance, and decrease fear factors.
