Howard County Seniors Learn the ABCs of Viral Hepatitis

July 28th is Hepatitis Awareness Day in Howard County

Facilities in Howard County Offering Hepatitis C Testing and Treatment Services for the 2019 National Viral Hepatitis Day Awareness

Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C are three types of viral hepatitis. While each can produce similar symptoms, each hepatitis virus affects the liver differently, has different routes of transmission, and has different populations that are commonly affected.

Hepatitis A
is easily prevented with a safe and effective vaccine. In recent years, widespread outbreaks of hepatitis A have been occurring across the US.

Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended for all infants at birth and adults at risk, but many people were infected before the vaccine was widely available.

Hepatitis C Treatments are available that can cure hepatitis C. As little as one pill a day can cure hepatitis C within 8 to 12 weeks.  Source: https://phpa.health.maryland.gov/OIDPCS/AVHPP/Pages/TestingForNVHAM.aspx
