Home Care in North Palm Beach FL

Home Care in North Palm Beach FLNo matter how long your loved one has had Alzheimer's disease, it's likely been difficult to help her remember what she needs and wants to remember. Her doctor can help you with some aspects, as can her senior care providers.
Use Sticky Notes Everywhere Sticky notes are a wonderful way to leave information where your loved one needs to see it. You can use them on doors, mirrors, or on appliances. If your loved one is easily overwhelmed, the sticky notes might not be as useful. Your loved one may also become agitated with having to deal with constant reminders. If that's the case, simply replace the sticky notes as often as you need to in order to keep the information both current and in front of your loved one.
Leave a List of Important Numbers Next to Every Phone If your loved one does need to contact another family member or their home care providers, it's important that she's able to find the number quickly. Leave a laminated list of important numbers right next to every phone in the house. That way when she goes to use the phone, she'll be sure to spot the list right there and find the right number.
Label Cupboards, Shelves, and Drawers Often out of sight means out of mind for loved ones who have Alzheimer's, so it helps to have labels in place. You can label just about everything, but closed containers are perfect for labeling. If the outside of cupboards are labeled properly, for example, your loved one doesn't have to worry about opening and closing several different cupboards to find the one item she's looking for.
Carry a Pocket Notebook with Important Information You can also have your loved one carry a notebook in her pocket that contains information that she might need throughout the day. Attach a pen or pencil to it as well so that she can add information as she needs to. You might want to include information about her medications, upcoming doctor's appointments, or even just reminders to drink water throughout the day.
Focus on Activities that Your Loved One Enjoys Try to focus on activities that your loved one already enjoys. She's less likely to feel overwhelmed and she likely has positive memories of doing these same activities with friends and other loved ones. When your loved one is happier, she's more likely to have good days rather than bad ones. Work with your loved one's home care providers to come up with other ways to help preserve your loved one's memories as long as possible.
