Is Your Senior Worried about Her Memory?

If your senior is experiencing the odd memory glitch, she might be concerned that something bigger is going on. She may not be sharing with you what she’s worried about, though, until she feels like she can’t hide it any longer. If you’ve noticed problems with your senior’s memory, you might want to start talking to her about what she’s feeling.

Talk to Your Senior

Your senior may have been worried about her memory for a longer period of time than you even realize at first. The main reason that people wait to talk about memory issues is often that they’re concerned that there’s a cognitive health issue. That can be incredibly scary, especially if she has a family history of that sort of health concern. Talk to your elderly family member about what she’s experiencing and why she feels that there’s something going on with her memory.

Set up a Meeting with Her Doctor

Once you’ve got information from your senior, you can both take that to her doctor. Her doctor can run some comprehensive tests that get to the bottom of what’s going on. If there are nutritional deficiencies that are affecting your senior’s brain and body, that’s easy enough to correct. But if there’s something more going on, that’s also something that can be easily identified.

Get a Plan in Motion

After you’ve collected anecdotal data and your senior’s doctor has run tests, that gives you something you can work with to find a solution. Your senior’s situation may be one that is not what it appeared at first. The answers you’re collecting give you a chance to put a plan together and to get it in motion.

Don’t Jump the Gun

One thing you do want to be careful about is that you and your senior don’t jump the gun. While there are plenty of serious cognitive conditions that change how your senior’s brain functions, that doesn’t mean that she’s necessarily facing one of those conditions. Other issues, like stress and health conditions, can all be contributing factors to memory problems. Don’t borrow trouble until your senior’s doctor confirms there’s something to be concerned about.

Having some extra assistance can alleviate some of the stress your senior is experiencing. Elder care providers can help your senior with all sorts of tasks and they can also help to reassure you that your senior isn’t alone. That can be a huge relief when you’re still ironing out what’s contributing to her memory problems.
