Samantha Bilsak, RN BSN
How long have you been a nurse?
I have worked in healthcare for about 9.5 years. I started out as a Technical Partner/nurses’ aide in the hospital setting while in nursing school. Since then, for the past 7.5 years, I have worked as a registered nurse in a variety of settings. I initially earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and then subsequently completed my Bachelors in Nursing. I am currently working on my MSN with a focus on Behavioral Health.
What expertise and experience do you bring to BrightStar Care?
The majority of my nursing experience has been in the outpatient realm and I am passionate about providing care that is client centered and seamless. I started my nursing career on a Medical Surgical/Orthopedic unit. I then transitioned into a nurse manager role in an Internal Medicine Practice and was with that group for several years. I also have home health care and case management experience.
What part of your job are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about providing high quality care and removing barriers within the health care system. Health care can be very complicated and hard to understand at times and I feel that, as health care workers, we should strive to make it simpler for our clients to navigate. I believe that by being an advocate and educator to our clients we can help improve health outcomes and lower overall healthcare costs.
What are three unique strengths you bring to BrightStar Care?
- I always try to look at the big picture. This is helpful as it takes into account past experiences while also anticipating what’s coming ahead, which is especially important when working with clients with complex health needs.
- I prioritize daily, weekly and monthly! Whether you are dealing with a client issue or a staffing issue, it is important to remain flexible and to be ready to re-prioritize tasks as needs change.
- I enjoy being a mentor to other health care workers. Helping staff enhance their skills, knowledge and confidence is very rewarding.
