Brain Injury Awareness Month

March 3, 2020

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month.

Untitled-design-(2).pngEach year 1 out every 500 children will need to be hospitalized for a head injury. Even with health insurance the financial burden and emotional toll can be overwhelming for families. Brain Injury Awareness Month provides a platform to empower survivors of brain injury and support their caregivers. Brain Injury Awareness Month is supported by local organizations to help provide resources to families and educate the general public about brain injuries. A local organization that BrightStar Care Lubbock is proud to support is Team Luk3 Hope for Minds.

Team Luk3 Hope For Minds

TeamLuke.pngTeam Luk3 Hope For Minds is an organization that is devoted to educating families about available resources and financial support to cover costs not covered by insurance, like home renovations, transportation and medical equipment.

Throughout the year Team Luk3 Hope For Minds’ representatives host fundraisers, support groups and group.pngspeaking engagements to give hope to families and survivors of brain injuries and provide grants to cover medical costs.

Our Role As A Healthcare Leader

IMG_9179.JPGWe believe to be a higher standard in home care starts with training. This month our team will be training our nurses who care for brain injury survivors on new research and best practices to serve clients with brain injuries. The training will provide information on the nurses role and techniques to help clients progress and to better understand their clients medical needs. The training will specifically focus on pediatrics since that is the heart of organization.

We are also encouraging our team to wear green for us to post on our social media pages to help spread the message about Team Luk3 Hope For Minds.

How You Can Help

Internationally you can raise awareness by wearing green and posting on social media with the hashtag #ChangeYourMind.

Locally, Mayor Dan Pope has recognized March 3rd as Team Luk3 Hope For Minds day. Team Luk3 Hope For Minds encourages Lubbock-ites and other supporters to wear green and post your photo on social media to raise awareness.

You can also text “Luke3” to 76278 to donate $3 that will go directly to Texas families.
