Alzheimer's friendly businessesPerhaps you've noticed it, too. Lately news about advancements in screening for, detecting, and treating Alzheimer's and other dementia has been all over the news. Or at least whenever there is a pause in the coverage ad nauseum on the election. There are blood tests and eye scans that will identify the disease much earlier. There are programs all over our region where people who deal with dementia sufferers can get free training on how to best serve these people. Today I heard about the program that Home Instead is offering on "Becoming an Alzheimer’s Friendly Business." This program teaches business people simple techniques to help their customers that have Alzheimer’s or other dementia with this free live or online training. You can learn more opportunities in the Worcester and metro west area at http://www.helpforalzheimersfamilies.com/alzheimers-care-training/alzheimers-friendly-business-training/ And in Denmark Medscape Medical News reports are in that say, " Two novel, noninvasive, and relatively simple eye tests show promise as potential screening tools for early Alzheimer's disease (AD). Preliminary results from 2 studies presented here at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC) 2014 show that beta-amyloid detected in the eyes significantly correlated with the burden of beta-amyloid in the brain, allowing investigators to accurately identify individuals with AD. It's wonderful to be at a place in time when there is finally so much hope and so much promise for ending this horrible disease.
