Support for Grandparents who Parent in Worcester

February 1, 2016
Today's parents comgrandparents of colore in every age, stage of life, and configuration. Some choose to be single parents, many start much later in life then years ago. Some are multi-cultural and many are gay parents. So it is no surprise that life can get a little (or a lot) tougher when, in what many expect to be their "Golden Years", seniors find themselves raising their own grandchildren. Does this scenario look familiar to you? You aren't alone. For a multitude of reasons there are thousands and thousands of grandparentsfamilies that need that senior or senior couple to take over and raise their own grandchildren. There can be no doubt that their own long planned for dreams are rearranged or scrapped completely, to fill the vacuum left when the birth parents are unable or unwilling to fulfill their responsibilities. Yes, they most certainly are "The Greatest Generation." But no one can make and execute a commitment that large and all encompassing without ongoing support and acknowledgement. You can get support and counsel at the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group (This also includes other family members) Tuesday, February 9, 2016, 6:00-8:00 p.m.  at the YWCA (Members Lounge) 1 Salem Square Worcester, MA. The support group meets the second Tuesday of every month with a social worker from Children's Friend, Inc. moderating and free childcare is provided.
