Jana worked as an RN for years with big-name hospitals in and around the Pittsburgh area where she gained firsthand experience in patient care. While working with the elderly and the ill, Jana also felt the need for a compassionate and caring homecare agency in our area. Jana knows what trauma families face when a patient goes home after a hospital stay but cannot arrange a dependable caregiver. This understanding prompted Jana to join the BrightStar family – an organization that known nationwide for its quality and unprecedented commitment to senior and child care!
Under Jana's dedicated leadership, BrightStar of Pittsburgh is a family of many registered nurses, LPN, CNAs and caregivers, backed up by a group of committed office managers for whom nothing is more important that delivering quality care to the clients.

Brandy Beatty, Vice President of Business Development
Brandy has a strong desire and passion to help others. As an active volunteer to Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization, she mentors under-privileged children. With her degree in Multiple Disciplinary Studies and Marketing Management from WVU and her experience in office administration, Brandy brings great energy to the BrightStar team. She’s completely loyal and dedicated to the BrightStar mission, “nobody goes without care,” and believes it to the furthest extent. She has been with BrightStar since January of 2012 and feels overwhelmed with the joy and gratification that working with BrightStar has given her. “I never imagined being in the health care field, but now that I have been with BrightStar, I can’t imagine my life any other way. Just knowing that I am contributing to help enrich someone’s quality of life is the most rewarding feeling and I am addicted to it.” In her free time she enjoys relaxing with her fiancé, Brian,
playing with her dogs, Snoopy and Ted, exercising at Pure Barre classes, cooking, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Marlena Myers, Vice President of Operations
Marlena (Lanie) Myers has had multiple years of experience in the healthcare field. While attending an LPN program and falling in love with all hospital departments, Marlena gained her CNA. From there, she worked in the ECU at Lock Haven Hospital and then moved to Pittsburgh where she worked as a CNA for UPMC before starting her career with BrightStar Healthcare. “I truly feel that my passion for the nursing field and for clients, along with my marketing and business background is what has led me to gradually progress to the position of Vice President. I thoroughly enjoy my job each and every day and those I have grown to care for like family. Each client and caregiver are the main ingredients of what makes BrightStar who we are and I couldn’t be happier to be part of such a hard-working and caring team that truly loves their community.”
In Lanie’s free-time, you can find her spending time with the joys of her life, her 3-year old son, Connor and her 4-year old daughter, Raegan along with her fiancé, Nathan, and their puppy, Ollie.
Danielle Gjurich, DON of South Operations
Danielle received her RN from Mount Aloysius College in Cresson, PA.
Working for BrightStar has been one of the most rewarding positions she has taken on.
The one-on-one care and daily interactions with the clients is what she enjoys most about home health nursing. She looks forward to growing professionally and personally with BrightStar.
When she isn’t working, you can find Danielle white water kayaking, hitting the slopes, or just enjoying the outdoors with her dog, Goose.
Jasmin Nagy, DON of North Operations
Jasmin was a Certified Nursing Assistant for two years when she realized that she wanted to become a nurse. She received her Associates of Nursing degree
from Fairmont State University and completed her Bachelor’s in Nursing in May 2015. All of her nursing experience was gained in Cardiac, Oncology, and now Home Health.
She strongly believes that BrightStar is where she belongs
because she is finally able to provide patient-centered care in our client’s homes. Her most cherished aspect is that she can form bonds and long term relationships with her patients while providing care. Jasmin states, “They say that home is where the heart is and the fact that I can treat patients and make their day while at home, gives me the satisfaction in my job to last a lifetime. Brianne Jenko, Sales and Marketing Manager
Brianne graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s of science degree.
As a sales professional for over 10 years, Brianne believes that building relationships between our caregivers and families is crucial for our client’s happiness and health.
As a BrightStar employee, she wants to truly help families by educating those who need care about all BrightStar has to offer.
When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her dog, Palu.
She spent 3 years living in Phoenix and enjoys traveling back to enjoy the warm weather and visit with friends.
Jessica Poplowski, HR director
Jessica graduated from Sanford Brown Institute with a degree in Ultrasound. She loves working in the health care field, and she feels that she has found a home at BrightStar.
Getting to speak to clients on a daily basis on how much BrightStar has changed their lives is rewarding and is what inspires Jessica to hire only quality caregivers and CNA’s to care for our clients. She loves spending time with her playful Shih Tzu, being active, and spending time with family and friends.
Robert Davis, HR Director
Though his people skills and education background originally led him to retail HR and staffing, Rob Davis feels he has found a home at BrightStar.
His father's recent health issues have given him firsthand experience with the difference quality medical personnel can make in a successful recovery, as well as giving family peace of mind about the home care their loved one receives.
During every interview with a potential caregiver, CNA or nurse, Rob’s first thought is if he would want them to care for his father.
Rob is newly married, with two step daughters and many pets, and
is just waiting for the day when Pitt basketball makes the Final Four… but until that dream day, he stays busy reading, watching a bit too much TV and running very slowly.
Mary Grace Locy, Branch Director- SW Pittsburgh
Mary Grace has worked in the Healthcare Industry for over 18 years and we are pleased to have her on our team! She has been the leader of several Alzheimer’s Support Groups and she is certified through the Alzheimer’s Association! She is happily married to her husband, Jon, and she has three children: Zachary, Sara and Joshua. Mary Grace co-owns a Construction Company with her husband, and she also enjoys spending her free time on her family’s boat, crocheting, and arts and crafts! She loves working with BrightStar and impacting others’ lives in a beautiful way and she fully commits to our BrightStar guarantee that no client ever goes without care!
Valerie Stillwagon, Branch Director- SE Pittsburgh
At a very young age,
Valerie fell in love with healthcare. That is why she spent 20+ years in nursing. She has worked in LTC, EMS, Cardiothoracic and organ donation. She has dedicated her entire career to helping others and feels blessed with the opportunity to be a part of the Bright Star family and couldn’t be happier. As a new team member, she looks forward to working with our internal and field staff to provide the best possible client experience she can.
Valerie states, “together, as a team, if each one of us positively impacts one person’s life daily, we have moved mountains!” When she is not working, you can find her chasing around Joey 22, Emalee 17, Isaiah 7 and Rubee 6. She loves spending time playing games, laughing, and anything outdoors. Valerie also have 2 fur-babies, Bella and Freckles.
Tina Schellman, Branch Director- Butler Co./NW Pittsburgh
Tina is a CNA with 5 years of Skilled Nursing and Home Care experience.
After switching to the field of Home Care, she found that she enjoyed the personalized one-on-one care that she could give her patients. For the past 2 years, Tina worked for a wonderful woman in her home, and that is where she found her passion for the elderly. She is actively working towards her R.N. Tina is married with three children, one boy and 2 girls. During her spare time, she is a member on the Seneca Valley School District board, a Cheerleading Coordinator, and Cheerleading coach for the local youth football association.
Cortney Henze, Care Manager- SW Pittsburgh
Cortney is a Care Manager in the BrightStar SW/SE Pittsburgh Office and has been with BrightStar since August 2014. Cortney has extensive experience with the intellectual & developmental disabilities population and she has worked in Group Homes’ and Day Programs for individuals with all types of disabilities in Healthcare for the past 9 years.
She has one son, Alexzander (7), as well as her niece, Haylee (2) and she loves both of them to no end. In her free time, Cortney and her son, Alexzander, enjoy going to the zoo together, bike riding, bowling, and mini golfing! She loves getting to know our clients’ and staff, as well as working very hard to make sure all of our clients are able to happily and safely stay home as long as possible. Cortney loves knowing that she is helping those that cannot help themselves in the comfort of their own homes and she is committed to our BrightStar Family and our mission that no client ever goes without care.
Lauren Richardson, Care Manager
Lauren Richardson of New Eagle ,Pa is a graduate of Canon McMillian High School(Canonsburg, PA) and Sandford Brown College (Cleveland, Oh). She had started her college education as a political science major but soon realized that was not the field for her. It wasn’t until a life changing car accident that she decided to pursue a career in health care. She attended Community College of Allegheny County while her husband finished up his contract with the United State Marine Corp. They then moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she received her Degree in Medical Assistant. She is a proud mom of two very special babies and two Dogs. Outside of work she likes to spend time with her kids, go hunting,
go fishing, and listen to country music.
CeCe Merriman, Care Manager- NW Pittsburgh
CeCe has worked in the nursing field for nearly 18 years. She started out as a caregiver fresh out of high school, and has worked in many different environments (Personal Care, Skilled Nursing Home, Pharmacy, ER, OR, Recovery, Prep, MHMR, PT/OT, Hospice & Managed a Wound Care Clinic) of nursing. When starting out, CeCe thought she just wanted to help others, but came to find she wanted to do & know more. She was inspired to become diverse in as many aspects as possible. When someone said she couldn’t…she did. CeCe is a Certified Nursing Assistant who actively goes out and helps in the field, meeting the clients and staff. Cece proclaims, “I love what I do & I bring extra helping hands, not just from the desk or phone, but hands on…I am a BrightStar Care Employee & a PROUD Team Member Since September of 2014.”
Stormie Milligan, Care Manager- Butler Co.
Stormie from the Butler/Northwest office is a dedicated and ambitious Care Manager with BrightStar. She originally aspired to by a nurse and she worked towards her RN at Butler County Community College. Her goal was to be a nurse for the U.S Military, but she found BrightStar and became extremely passionate towards our mission. She takes pride in helping others and feels like she found a home with BrightStar. Stormie has a lot of desire and determination to ensure that,
“No one goes without care.” Outside of work, Stormie enjoys spending time with her family, loves the nature and outdoors, and loves all of her Pittsburgh sports teams!
Donna Palmer, Care Manager SE Pittsburgh
Donna has worked as a CG and CNA for approximately 19 years in nursing homes, personal care homes and private homes. She wanted to expand her knowledge and take it to the next level, and that is when she pursued a position as Care Manager with BrightStar. Donna puts forth her best effort in ensuring the highest quality of care is given to all. “Caring for others is what I do best!
Donna has6 children
ranging from 2 years to 18 years as well as a wonderfully supportive husband David that she cares for and loves unconditionally every day. She has 2 dogs, 2 cats and a chinchilla. Though she may be extra busy on a daily basis, she finds the time that is needed to CARE for all. This is what makes Donna proud to have the title CARE Manager behind her name.

Christine Weigand, Executive Assistant
Christine has a degree in Medical Assisting with some schooling in Business Management, and a background in retail management and Orthopedics. She has joined our family as part of the payroll and billing department. Christine has one daughter, Haylee (2), who she spends all of her free time with. They love playing outside, going to the park, zoo, and other adventures/ activities. They spend a lot of time with Christine’s nephew, Alexzander. Christine is becoming very active with health and fitness and strives to be a healthier person for her family.
Gia Cox, Receptionist
Gia has been a dedicated
caregiver with BrightStar since 2008.
She enjoys giving people the comfort and companionship they need in order to live a more fulfilled life. She is extremely patient and dependable and was nominated as Caregiver of the Month because of her hard work, willingness to help, and quality of care she gives to her clients. After years of working in the field, she was offered a position in the office to assist with various daily tasks and has been a strong addition to the team. She is a mother of two precious little girls that she loves dearly and spends most of her free time reading and spending time with her family.
