ASU and Creighton Team Up To Bring More Health Care Education and Workers to Arizona

This newly formed educational partnership is important to Phoenix and a valuable resource for the Arizona Medical Community.

An ASU partnership with one of the largest public research universities in the nation and Creighton University, "the soon-to-be largest Jesuit, Catholic health professions educator" in the country, will bring needed health care professionals to Arizona.

Creighton's Phoenix campus, currently under construction at Park Central in midtown Phoenix, is scheduled to open in 2021. The University will accommodate close to 900 students that include future doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, pharmacists, and physician assistants. Creighton University is a Jesuit, Catholic university located in Omaha, Nebraska,

The partnership between ASU and Creighton "will boost health education opportunities available to ASU students while establishing a student pipeline to Creighton's $100 million Phoenix campus," according to Arizona Business Magazine.

This partnership is a landmark event for ASU. The Rev. Daniel Hendrickson, SJ, Ph.D., president of Creighton University, says it is an "unprecedented and exciting future, full of promise and significance." Explaining that the new Phoenix campus will become a significant provider of health care professionals to the Phoenix area and the Southwest.

"ASU is committed to advancing the highest quality education and use-inspired research, and to collaborating with forward-thinking partners like Creighton University to enhance accessibility and success for 21st-century learners," said ASU President Michael M. Crow, Ph.D.

The partnership will create new opportunities for Phoenix students and provide local health care with well-trained graduates for local health care careers.

ASU students get priority consideration for enrollment, and ASU will host Creighton students for on-campus research projects and provide supplement instruction at Creighton's health sciences campus in Phoenix. Also, Creighton and ASU are now collaborating on multiple research projects in the health sciences, including research on diabetes, hypoglycemia, oncology, drug delivery, asthma, and COPD.

"The partnership with ASU builds on the growing relationship between Creighton University and the city of Phoenix, where Creighton medical students have engaged in clinical rotations since 2005. In 2018, Creighton joined with Dignity Health, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, Valleywise Health, and District Medical Group, Inc. to form the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance – one of Arizona's largest providers of Graduate Medical Education."
