September Is Fall Prevention Month in San Diego County!

The Key to Preventing Falls Is Raising Awareness

There are many things that you can do to help prevent falls and promote Fall Awareness Month. Talk with Friends & Family: Let them know that September is Fall Awareness Month.  Encourage your friends to do the same.

There are many ways falls can be prevented.  Anyone can have a bad fall, therefore the following suggestions are worth considering regardless of your age. A few of these suggested tips to prevent a fall are if you need glasses, wear them, but never walk around with glasses on that are meant only for reading. Use a walking stick or cane if you are even slightly unsteady on your feet. Do not hesitate to use a walker or support frame outdoors, as well as in the house, if you feel safer or your physician recommends one. Wear well-fitted shoes with low heels or slippers with non-slip soles. Avoid long shoelaces that can easily come undone.
