“Our Mother is quite a pistol these days at the stellar young age of 85 Jose fits in and makes her feel like the independent, professional, intelligent woman she always was as we were growing up. We are very proud of Jose and congratulate him for his nomination.  Here is the full text of the 2017  Caregiver of the Year letter written by the daughter of the client Jose cares for.

Dear BrightStar,
The services you provide are quite challenging. Not everyone is cut out for this line of work, and we are blessed to receive excellent care from Jose Gonzalez. We would like to give special thanks for the sincere kindness showed to our Mother, Gerry B. Wilcox and our family. Jose is a true credit to the nursing profession as well as a wonderful human being.
Our Mother is quite a pistol these days at the stellar young age of 85 Jose fits in and makes her feel like the independent, professional, intelligent woman she always was as we were growing up. He brings that out in her because he has listened to all the stories, seen the pictures, invests time without being on the clock, and he just gets her. The time they spend is well spent quality time. One story to mind. Although at first Mom didn’t agree with the green nail polish for her manicure he gave her, once we explained to her that was the new color pallet of 2017, she was in. Who would think she was now the fashion diva? Jose did. Maybe it is because of the thoughtfulness he and his family show her with trinkets they carefully choose out or having her at their family gatherings where she is center of attention. She is always well coiffed, dressed to the tee and ready for visitors. That is quite important to us. She would not expect any less than that and he makes sure she is always perfect and in a good mood to speak with people.
Following up on the phone with Birthdays is a handful with this large and growing family, but Jose makes sure they both call and sing to them. Another smile to my Mom’s face because she gets a few minutes of quality time with the family members.

One of the last discussions with our Father before he passed was that this family together, will make sure Mom was safe, happy and quite comfortable in their existing home as long as possible. Jose makes sure of this and goes above and beyond. He maintains everything perfectly, and always lets us know what is going on with her health, Dr. Appt’s, and everything in between. Just like a family member.
On a personal note, our family would like to express our most heartfelt thanks to you Jose for being such a compassionate and competent caregiver for our Mom throughout the last 3 years. It is so difficult to see her going through these health challenges, (Dementia/Alzheimer’s) but such a reassurance to know that someone like you is looking after her needs so closely.
Mom's eyes light up and a smile spreads across her face when you show up in the morning as you already know. “I love you” is one of the first things that she says. That’s when the fun kicks in and I leave.
BINGO is a high point of the week. You two are thick as thieves. I love when you both call me and tell me all the prizes you two won. Mom repeats the same prizes over and over and you and I act like it was the first time over and over. That is a long conversation for 3 prizes. LOL, but with that one scenario after many we incur, I will say that I am a better person. I have learned patience, acceptance, compromise and a squeeze more love because of you Jose which has made my life a full circle with my Mom.

I can go on and on BrightStar, except that I forgot the original reason I was writing this. This letter was more for Jose to see how he has impacted our lives.
Our deepest thank you “Jose”, and as my Mom always says, “you are like melted butter”.
On behalf of the Wilcox Family, BrightStar Caregiver of 2017 goes well and above for Jose Gonzalez. Jose is the Angel that everyone should have the pleasure to meet and to be recognized for his heart and dedication.
Many Thanks,
The Wilcox Family
