Excellent Quality is Our Standard

March 3, 2017

One of the biggest attributes that sets us apart at BrightStar Care is our Joint Commission Accreditation.

Joint Commission Accreditation is a very high standard of excellence and is rare in the private duty home care field.

Margie Sagendorf, LPN; Courtney Smith, RN; Our Dir of Nursing, Deborah Parker; and others on a PRN basis are administering the Quality Improvement program at BrightStar Care.  Joint Commission accreditation standards, Utah Home Care licensure standards, Federal standards, and recommended practice guidelines from BrightStar Care corporate are what drive our Quality Improvement Program at BrightStar Care here in Salt Lake City.  Let’s look at all four sets of standards.
Joint Commission’s National Safety Standards include: Patient and staff identification Safe use of medications Preventing patient falls Identifying patient safety risks including oxygen, bleeding, etc. Skills competencies at all levels (CG, CNA, LPN, RN)
Utah State Home Health and Personal Care Licensure Standards include: Elder abuse awareness and training Staff field supervision every six months Scope of practice --- care administered within legally defined “scope” Plan of care – care is being provided according to the care plan In-service trainings --- at least 8 for all staff annually
Federal Regulation Standards include: OSHA -  federal guidelines for workplace safety HIPAA – federal guidelines for client confidentiality CDC – federal guidelines for hand hygiene and infection control
BrightStar Care Standards include: Infection control program – annual review of program and goals set Quality improvement (overall) program – annual review of program and goals set including incident and complaint monitoring
As field staff, here are the top five ways you will see the Quality Improvement program in action: Documentation improvements through Green and Yellow Correction slips in your in-box Field supervisions every six months including hand hygiene checks and BrightStar Care Standards checklist, Hands on competencies along with written competencies to be updated annually licensed and unlicensed staff In-service trainings --- all staff need 3 mandatory and 5 other in-services annually Nursing delegations for all unlicensed staff performing skilled tasks e.g. blood glucose monitoring and catheter irrigations, etc. As we work together to provide quality care our clients will have confidence in the excellence of the care we are providing from BrightStar Care.
