A Heart Affair for SF's Renowned Hospital

Zuckerberg San Francisco General's Heart Art Benefit

Every year artists apply to paint a giant 5-foot-tall, 400-pound heart for auction at the annual San Francisco General Hospital fundraiser. The statues have become loved public pieces of art that both locals and tourists admire. The heart sculptures have been on display at iconic city locations like Union Square. The Heart Art event is a fundraiser in support of patient care at our renowned public hospital and trauma center.

The first heart auction for SF General was in 2004 at the San Francisco Giants ballpark, and this 16th event took place in a tent set on the Giants' Oracle Park green.

Artist and former SF General Patient, Laine Wiesemann, was chosen to paint this year's heart. Wiesemann's painted a steaming cup of tea inspired by the benefits of green tea spouted by her oncologist, Dr. Donald Abrams. on this year's heart sculpture. The other side of the heart features an angel's trumpet and flowers floating over the bay that represents the care she received from the hospital staff.
