Director of Nursing

Gail Fusz,

Gail has over 30 years of home health experience. She started her career as a hospital pediatric nurse for 6 years and then went into the home health field as a nurse.
She became a supervisor and community health nurse in Missouri before moving back to Illinois.
Once back in Illinois, Gail began a 20 year career at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, where she was the Director of Home Health and leader of the hospital’s Clinical Accreditation Team.

In her role at BrightStar, Gail oversees the nursing and caregiver teams and coordinates their orientation and training.
Gail conducts chart audits, performance improvement activities and quality assurance projects to ensure that BrightStar is always rendering the best care possible.

Gail has led several software implementation projects at other home health agencies and enjoys training employees as much as she does finding ways to be more efficient in the field and in the office.

She has a background in home infusion and recently attended the Intravenous Nurses’ Society conference and workshop to maintain her skills in that area.
She promotes professionalism among her nurses and encourages them to acquire new clinical skills.
Gail also teaches her nurses how to manage a caseload of clients using organizational skills.
Her method of positive coaching, using goal setting and constructive feedback, while maintaining the integrity of the employee has been very successful.

Gail has developed many educational programs over the years and is currently available to speak at community groups or facilities on home health care or general medical topics.

Gail attended West Suburban hospital’s school of nursing and went on to get her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree, from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

She has been certified as a Home/Hospice Care Executive through the National Association of Home/Hospice Care and received an ethics certification from the University of Chicago.
She attended the Midwestern Institute for Nursing Leadership, Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Gail has an active weekend life with her husband and multiple pets.
She has a Labradoodle, an Australian cattle dog and a thoroughbred horse, named Stewart!
She has enjoyed horseback riding for many years and loves her dogs.
She has one daughter and three grandchildren, who she adores, and one daughter. She is an avid fan now of “T-ball” and gymnastics!
She and her husband like going to flea markets and looking for antiques in the summer.
