How long have you been a Nurse?
I began college at 17 at The University of Alabama and graduated with a BS in Education, specializing in Special Education. My minors are in Mental Retardation and Emotional Conflict in Resource LD/EC.
I came to Nashville and attended Belmont College graduating with an AD RN. I thought I would continue on to Vanderbilt for my MSN. That has not happened yet…
What experience do you bring to BrightStar Care?
Nursing has kept me so busy I have not had time to think about a MSN. I have enjoyed the ICU units
(open heart, transplant, Bone marrow transplant, trauma and burn units), the OR, PACU, EMA, Endoscopy lab, LD crash team, first response, Invitro with egg harvest and transfer, home care and hospice, skilled care, industrial, IV team and extensively with pain management including General anesthesia in home.
Working at Baxter Healthcare Inc, I implemented several NUITS, research and product testing and was blessed to have led a team to do the first ever in utero spina bifida repair and other in utero procedures and repairs. These were all published and one was featured on 48 hours.
I brought/taught the peripherally inserted central catheter procedure (PICC) to Nashville, placing the first line in a patient. I taught the technique to MD’s and Anesthesia teams.
My favorite is being an infusionist. Placing needles painlessly is God’s Gift.
I have had national certifications in ONS (oncology) and INS (infusion) and TPN management and care.
I have loved travel when caring for diplomats, governors, kings and high profile celebrities and their families.
What aspect of your job are you most passionate about?
I firmly believe in the resilience of the human body and its infinite ability to thrive. I believe in the wholeness and wonderment of the human spirit and all it encompasses. The love of life and those we share it with is what motivates us to live. I am passionate that I have been able to be an integral part of motivating and encouraging humans to thrive.
I am making more possible for BrightStar Care Clients by:
I want to take care back to the basics. The healing of hands, caring compassion, companionship and comfort are the essentials every person needs. I want to provide each client with care that encompasses all these and care that emulates the golden rule, “Treat others the way you want to be treated”.
