Valerie Lijana, RN
How long have you been a Nurse?
I graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2006.
What experience do you bring to BrightStar Care®?
After receiving my degree, I worked as an RN at Methodist Hospital Southlake on the neurology IMCU/ICU unit for four years followed by two years on the orthopedic/oncology unit at St Anthony Hospital in Crown Point. My clinical based experience has prepared me well to become our Director of Nursing in late 2011. I have extensive hands on experience helping treat dementia, joint replacement, stroke, cancer, and heart patients.
What aspect of your job are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about providing the level of care in a home setting that allows our patients to maintain their sense of pride and independence which is so vital to all of us.
During my tenure as an RN, I saw, first hand, the complications patient’s faced when forced to care for themselves at home. It was this concern that inspired me to open our family based home care facility.
People are unaware of the complexities of care in the home environment and the current healthcare system does not take into account a patient’s strong desire for independence. By delivering home care, focused on our patient’s physical and mental needs, I can help the patient improve their independence and bring peace of mind to the patient and their family.
I provide A Higher Standard of Care for our BrightStar Care® clients by…
Valuing them as individuals and celebrate the life they have lived and entrusted to our care. I take time to get to know them and understand what is important to them.
