Karen White, RN
Prior to receiving her BS in Nursing from the University of Alabama and her Master’s
degree from UAB as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Maternal Infant Nursing, Karen
received her BS in Early Childhood Education where she served as the health and
handicap coordinator for West Alabama’s Head Start programs.
Throughout her career, Karen taught nursing at the college level, worked in home health
and held numerous management positions. In 2014, she was instrumental in designing
and opening the Simulation Labs for the new St. Joseph Hospital. Quality and safe care
practices are at the forefront of her mission as she works to “make a difference” in the
lives of the people she touches.
As a certified Lamaze Educator, and “Resolve Thru Sharing” Counselor, Karen has
developed curricula for Lamaze Childbirth, Newborn Care, and “Building Baby Brains.”
As a Labor Doula, Karen has supported women through labor, birth and postpartum.
She also led weekly “Mommy and Me” support groups. She even birthed a baby 2
weeks ago at a local hospital.
Karen has co-authored a published article on Simulation education and produced and
acted in staff training videos. When she is not working, Karen enjoys snow skiing,
camping, whitewater rafting, yoga, gardening and cooking.
Karen joined BrightStar in July 2018 as a PRN nurse doing injections, infusions, clinical assessments, and various other skilled nursing services. In September, she was promoted to Director of Nursing responsible for full clinical oversight of all clients and caregiver staff.
