Lehigh Valley Homecare and Staffing Services

Remember how your parents and older relatives cared for you when you were young?  They tucked you into bed, cooked your favorite meals, held your hand when you crossed the road, and helped as you struggled with your shoe laces. Now as they age, the tables have turned.  They need help.  And you’re likely struggling to do it all.

That’s why we’re in business.  We offer homecare services so your loved ones can live well and safely in the comfort of their home.

BrightStar provides homecare services whenever you need them: daily, weekly, for a few hours or around the clock. We do what you would do if you only had the time…the laundry, shuttling back and forth from doctors’ appointments, stocking up on groceries, cooking healthy meals, making sure the home is organized and safe, light housekeeping, bathing, dressing, medication reminders and even feeding the cat or dog.

Caregiver provides care to senior

And our homecare is not just for the elderly or adults with disabilities.  When you’re sick or simply juggling one too many responsibilities, we can care for your children too.

Why BrightStar?  This difference is our people and our approach to caregiving.

About the Owners

Do you believe in being in the right place at the right time?  After 20 years of being a consumer of home care services, the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others was presented to us, and we have not looked back since.

Words cannot describe the feelings we experienced when we found out we were having triplets, and later the feelings we experienced when our triplets were born at 26 weeks, weighing a little over a pound each. We cannot begin to explain what went through our minds when our daughter Amanda was diagnosed with Spastic Quadripalegic Cerebral Palsy, a condition that has affected the lives of our family every day for the past 20 years. Among the many challenges we encountered, finding consistent, quality nursing care for her was the most important.  Amanda is non-verbal and has limited ability to communicate.  It is therefore critical for her to have consistent care givers, who have the opportunity and desire to get to know her and her communication methods, her facial expressions, her body language, etc.  It is a fundamental principle that caregivers come with the technical skills that are needed to “do the job”.  What we were looking for was the “above and beyond” skills.  The proactive, observant, caring, compassionate, dedication, the caregiver who would take care of her “as if she were his/her child” This has been our mission since we started using aids/nursing services with Amanda, when she was in pre-school.  We have advocated for 20 years to find proper care for our children, whether it be for the triplets as they came home after a 3 month stay in the NICU, or for Amanda when she is ill or home on breaks from school. Unfortunately, our experience over the last 19 years has not always been positive, and we have scratched our heads many times, wondering why this concept is so difficult to put into practice.

We have always said that when the time was right, we wanted to help people who were in the same situation as us. We wanted to make the quality of care that we expect for our loved ones the standard in the industry.

While discussing this topic with a dear friend and nurse, she mentioned an Undercover Boss episode that she had seen on television.  It was about a new company called “BrightStar” Care, and their philosophy was exactly what we were looking for.  We did a great deal of research and found that there was not an agency in our area. As we were researching the company and the opportunity, my mom began to lose her fight with Alzheimer’s. I was making frequent trips to her home about 100 miles away to be by her side as her condition worsened. I could not believe how difficult it was to find quality 24-hour care for my mother in her time of need. She had always been there to care for my siblings and I, and when I needed to find care for her, it seemed nearly impossible. Working full time and with the busy schedule of a family of 6, there was no way that we could care for my mother by ourselves. After some time we found a wonderful caretaker who cared for my mother until she passed peacefully. We thank god every day for blessing us with Janet, who befriended my mother and helped her enjoy her last few months.

It was this struggle that pointed us in the right direction. Too many times we had been put in the situation where we needed quality care, and couldn’t get it.  Someone was hinting to us that now was the time. As we focus on our business, Jim and I promise to provide personal care to families just like we do ours. With our extensive business background/ life experience, and the partnership of a very experienced and caring  nurse/branch manager, we can make a difference in the lives of so many people.

Our commitment to each other and to our clients and caregivers is to always practice the principles that brought us here:

  • To take extraordinary care of your loved ones, as if they were our own.
  • To listen and observe carefully and adapt our plan of care to meet their unique needs.
  • To hire extraordinary caregivers, with technical experience and background who also want to make a difference in the lives of others, and to provide them with the tools, education and opportunity to really make a difference.

When I think of why we started this company, my mind immediately reflects upon Amanda, her radiant smile and wonderful approach to life.  Although she has no means of communication, Amanda enjoys and lives life to the absolute fullest. Our vision is that our caretakers make life as comfortable and enjoyable for your family members as Janet made my mothers, and that every client displays the same radiant smile that Jim and I get to witness on Amanda’s face every single day.  With a team of caregivers and a staff who believes in the philosophy of “Yes we can”, you will be able to have peace of mind that your loved one is being cared for as a “member of our family” and can spend the rest of their lives in the comfort of their own home.
