BrightStar Care Of Austin Helps Raise Awareness For Elderly Alcohol Abuse Prevention

Drinking too much alcohol increases people’s risk of injuries, violence, drowning, liver disease, and some types of cancer.

This April, during Alcohol Awareness Month, BrightStar Care of Austin encourages you to educate yourself and your loved ones about the dangers of drinking too much. In Texas alone, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) sources show that in Texas the highest number of alcohol-impaired driving fatalities in 2016 were 1,438 fatalities. There were 949 drivers with a BAC of 15 percent or higher involved in fatal DUI accidents that year. During 2015, Texas was also the state with the highest number of alcohol-impaired driving fatalities with 1,323 deaths in 2015.
 
Drunk driving accidents in Texas cities with the highest number of DUI crashes in 2016 were:
  • San Antonio — 1,845
  • Houston — 1,492
  • Austin — 1,432
  • Dallas — 1,310
  • El Paso — 759

BrightStar Care is joining other organizations across the country to celebrate Alcohol Awareness Month and help spread the word against drunk driving and alcohol abuse during the month of April 2019.
 
If you are drinking too much, you can improve your health by cutting back or quitting.
Here are some strategies to help you cut back or stop drinking:
  • Limit your drinking to no more than 1 drink a day for women or 2 drinks a day for men.
  • Keep track of how much you drink.
  • Choose a day each week when you will not drink.
  • Don’t drink when you are upset.
  • Limit the amount of alcohol you keep at home.
  • Avoid places where people drink a lot.
If you are concerned about someone else’s drinking, help spread the word and prevent alcohol abuse by offering to help by referring a visit to your local AA located at the following location:
