According to the Alzheimer’s Research & Prevention Foundation, regular physical exercise can reduce your risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease by up to 50 percent. This is the easiest way to limit your chances of having brain disorders and memory issues as you continue to age.

Studies have shown that healthy activities are closely tied to brain chemicals released during exercise: – serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and endorphins, are known to have strong effects on mood, helping reduce feelings of anxiety, stress and depression, while also helping to strengthen your immune system.

Being active can also help slow down further deterioration in those who have already started to develop cognitive problems. Exercise protects against Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia by stimulating the brain’s ability to maintain old connections as well as make new ones.

Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise each week. The ideal plan involves a combination of cardio exercise and strength training. Good activities for beginners include walking and swimming. These are just a few of the many important aging tips that our BrightStar Professional Care Teams in Boulder are capable of helping direct for your senior loved ones.
