Get your flu shot

September 17, 2020
I went to Walgreens the other day and had my flu shot.  It was quick and painless, and, thanks to my Medicare coverage, free to me.  According to the CDC, every adult should get a flu vaccine unless they have “severe, life-threatening allergies to flu vaccine or any ingredient in the vaccine”.  This doesn’t mean a slight sore arm or mild flu symptoms which can occasionally result from the shot, but a severe, life threatening allergic reaction

It is especially important this year for another reason as well.  With fear of Covid-19, every flu-like symptom you might get will be considered Covid-19 until proven otherwise.  That means that a slight touch of flu symptoms could cause you to be quarantined from work for 14 days.  Can you afford that?!

No one likes to get a shot, but this year especially, it is super important.  BrightStar always recommends its employees get the flu shot.  It is also a Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goal.  Even if you get a sore arm or slight flu-like symptoms it’s still far better than getting the flu and/or giving it to your family members, coworkers and clients.

The best time to get your flu shot is in September and October.  Do it now.  Don’t wait until you miss out on the convenient opportunities or worse.  Go online and search for free flu clinics near you, or visit a nearby Walgreens or CVS.  Do yourself a favor and get the shot.  Why risk it?  Did I mention that you should get your flu shot?!
