Sandra - Director of Nursing
Sandra graduated with a nursing degree in Virginia over 35 years ago. Starting in Family Centered Care, she later moved to Germany to teach Army EMT’s in the areas of Emergency Childbirth, Pediatric emergencies and CPR as well as Simulated Mass Casualty situations. Most of Sandra’s career has been in Oncology and Infusion, giving her many opportunities to educate and act as an advocate for patients and staff.
Sandra joined BrightStar in 2016 as an infusion nurse, later becoming Director of Nursing and leading the office through successful Joint Commission re-accreditation and achieving State Licensure as Missouri’s only non-Medicare Home Health Agency. As DON, Sandra leads our clinical team, maintaining compliance and high standards. In addition, Sandra completes all initial assessments, develops patient Plans of Care, oversees all skilled and private duty clients monitoring condition changes and following up to make sure they are addressed, and she trains and supervises our RNs, LPNs, CNAs and caregivers.
Sandra is passionate about taking care of others. She is tireless in her pursuit of quality care. She realizes the best way to accomplish this is to educate her patients and those giving their care. She believes in giving patients, clients, caregivers and nurses the tools and education that offer the best possible outcomes.
Cassie – Quality Assurance Coordinator
Cassandra (Cassie) Showers joined our BrightStar team in 2017 as a caregiver. Always driven and one of our top CNAs, when Cassie achieved her LPN degree, we brought her into the office as our Quality Assurance Coordinator. In addition to being Director of Nursing, Sandra’s right hand in our clinical team, Cassie has developed a key role in training and maintaining quality in the field. She orients and trains all new hires on the clinical aspects of their jobs, supports field staff, provides a warm introduction for caregivers to new clients, and conducts re-assessments, supervisory visits and caregiver field training. Cassie also customized BrightStar’s dementia training program and made it accessible to all of our caregivers, ensuring that all of BrightStar’s clients receive the highest quality care available.
