COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES A study by the National Institute on Aging found that 61 percent of men and 37 percent of women over the age of 60 are sexually active. However, it is rare, despite the rapidly growing aging population, to discuss the intimacy and sexual needs or desires of older adults. It is rarer still for health care providers to discuss intimacy and sexual issues with their older adult patients or the patients’ adult children (when indicated). The learning outcomes in this training are: 1. Recognize the myths about sexuality and elders and develop an understanding of the positive sexual needs of elders including intimacy and relationships. 2. Identify barriers to sexual health and positive sexual intimacy among elders. 3. Develop solution-focused, non-judgmental communication strategies for discussing sexual health with elders with a sensitivity to cultural and religious differences.
Please join us on Tuesday, May 10 8:30a-10a at 6016 Shallowford Road Suite 1300. The event is free to attend and a light breakfast will be served.
