Recent Changes Under the Dole Act Make It Simpler for Veterans to Get the Care They Deserve

At BrightStar Care of Gloucester County, we are proud to serve those who have served. Thanks to recent changes under the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act, it’s now easier than ever for eligible Veterans to receive care in the comfort of their own homes.

What’s Changed?

Previously, Veterans who qualified for community care under the “Best Medical Interest” (BMI) category had to wait for a secondary review by the VA before being referred to outside providers. This added an extra step that could delay care, or in some cases, discourage Veterans from pursuing services altogether.

Under the new law, that additional review has been removed. Now, when a Veteran and their referring VA clinician determine that community care is in their best medical interest, the process can move forward without additional VA approvals.

What This Means for Veterans and Their Families:

  • Faster access to needed care

  • Less red tape and fewer delays

  • More say in choosing the provider that’s right for them

  • Increased flexibility to receive care in a familiar, supportive environment

Whether it’s skilled nursing, personal care, or companionship, our team is VA-credentialed and ready to help. We understand the system, and we work directly with VA social workers and case managers to streamline services.

If you or a loved one is a Veteran who may benefit from in-home support, we’re here to help navigate the process and make sure you receive the care you’ve earned.
