February is American Heart Month and as such, we at BrightStar Care would like to take a moment to reflect on its significance, history, and some simple ways that each of us can partake in it. Many may not know, but cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death both in the US and globally. This awareness campaign was established by President Johnson back in 1964 to encourage people to make healthier choices and promote learning CPR. At BrightStar Care, each of our service providers is required to pass a hands-on CPR class. Along with learning the invaluable skill of CPR, we can also wear red this month which shows support for heart health. It is also encouraged to make healthier eating choices and/or increase physical activity. Many of us likely included one or both of those in our New Year’s resolutions, so we may already be on the right track! Monitoring your blood pressure is also a good habit to begin and make sure to minimize your smoking and tobacco use. If you never started smoking or using tobacco products, even better! As you can see, there are many ways we can each participate in this awareness month. We hope you will join BrightStar Care in showing support for heart health and encouraging healthier living, this month and every month.
