Even more than who we are and what we say is what we do. The true measure of the services that we provide is that we met and exceeded the expectations of those in our care and their families. Nestled deep within each unique client story is all that our caregivers are making possible – more flexibility, more security, more hope. And while we could just tell you about the kind of work we do, there is nobody better able to speak to the kind of care that BrightStar provides than those we serve on a daily basis.
“When I first met Raoul the BrightStar owner and his Registered Nurse, I was moody and frankly I didn’t have the will to go on. It was a Saturday in May at noon and less than 24 hours since the arrival to my new apartment in Orlando. I moved from my lifelong hometown in Ohio to be closer to my sister and her family.
“Over the years, my health issues led to the loss of my leg on one side and half of my foot on the other and of all things my hair too! The BrightStar nurse began the process of assessing my needs and admitting me to BrightStar services. It was then when she learned that some of my medications were not right. She made some calls and connected me with a doctor that I had seen several times when visiting Orlando in the past and set me up with an appointment.
“Because of the short notice, Raoul and his RN couldn’t get a caregiver that was available immediately, so they both stayed with me the rest of the day and helped me get situated for my first night. They returned again Sunday morning to get me out of bed, feed me and prepare me for the day. Raoul put my bed frame together and put the box spring and mattress in place so that the medical equipment they ordered, and had delivered for me that afternoon before, would fit under the bed! The Nurse came back Sunday evening to prepare me for bed. On Monday, the BrightStar Nurse returned to introduce me to my new caregiver who is still with me today.
“Since those first days, I’ve had great care and physical therapy and now I have the strength to sit up and move around on my own. Here we are only a few months later and I’m doing very well. I laugh a lot; I have a new leg, and have become less dependent on BrightStar and more dependent on myself. Oh, and my hair has grown back since — thank you!
“I have mixed emotions because I know very soon, I won’t need them very much anymore, but Raoul promises that won’t be the end of his visits! The BrightStar team from top to bottom has made so much more possible for me. I actually got to spend the holidays with my sister and her family. I now transfer from my wheelchair to her car with no problems. I spend more time with my sister and my family because now I can get in and out of her car — something I couldn’t dream of doing only a few months ago. Thank you BrightStar!”
