Senior Flu Prevention

Many people are concerned about common cold, influenza, and even pneumonia, during the winter months.  BrightStar Care® follows the National Patient Safety Goals of the Joint Commission and is deeply committed to strategies to reduce the likelihood of infection and keeping loved ones as healthy as possible during the holidays and beyond.  Through our expertise in managing chronic conditions, we can work with your care team to be sure you’re getting the care you need.

How BrightStar Care® Can Help:

  • Our Registered Nurse performs a comprehensive health assessment for every client.  Each and every plan of care is based on initial and ongoing client assessments.  As part of this process, our RN takes into account any nutritional and/or fitness deficiencies as well as underlying chronic illnesses that could make an individual more vulnerable to infection and would address these areas in an individualized plan of care.
  • Special clinical programs can help manage existing infection.  BrightStar Care uses a variety of research-based, condition-specific methods to empower the client to better manage common infections like pneumonia and side effects like delirium through the active involvement and oversight of our Registered Nurse Director of Nursing and specially trained care team.
  • We actively strive to meet Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals for infection control.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hand hygiene is one of the most important ways to prevent the spread of infections.  In accordance with the Joint Commission, our caregivers are trained and competency tested to ensure proper hand washing techniques and infection control processes are being followed.
  • Our professional caregivers are competency verified, trained, and fully screened.  We believe in giving peace of mind to our clients by offering the highest quality caregivers available.  That’s why, in addition to being competency verified by our RN Director of Nursing, each of our professional caregivers undergoes drug screening, a criminal background check, and license/certificate verification in accordance with state laws and requirements, and are among the most compassionate in the industry.

TIPS FOR SENIOR FLU PREVENTION

If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into the bend of your arm or sleeve; not your hands. Be sure to get your annual influenza vaccination! Wash your hands using good hand washing technique.
If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer gel or wipes.
If you’re sick or you encounter someone else, who is sick, greet them with a cordial “elbow bump” instead of shaking hands.
