Cumming/Gainesville Senior Caregivers: Getting Care for Yourself
Caring for Cumming/Gainesville Caregivers - You are Not Alone

Having open communication with your Cumming/Gainesville senior loved ones about upcoming holidays and special events/occasions is the first key to maintaining healthy self-care as a caregiver. Two way communication of expectations, having a mutual game plan, and having communication with friends and other family members as well, that you have a lot on your plate and you may need to excuse yourself during festivities to have a moment to yourself if you feel your emotions getting the better of you.

After giving yourself a break, take time to celebrate your stage of life as a caregiver, recognizing that you are giving a lot of yourself and are dealing with a lot of emotions and responsibilities. Just like previously discussed that taking time for yourself as a caregiver to your senior is important for your own mental health, also take the time to treat yourself with care for your emotional health. Whether it be doing something like just taking time for yourself, treating yourself to something special in the midst of the holiday season, or just verbal affirmations you continue to tell yourself when you are feeling worn down.

Cancer is a very heavy reality. Not only is it strenuous emotionally, but it can be monetarily and physically as well. This affects not only the Cumming/Gainesville senior, but you the caregiver as well. Celebrate each day together as loved ones, and as caregiver and “patient.” There are new personal victories to be found every day. Celebrate those accomplishments together. Enjoy the new closer relationship, cheering each other on finding courage and strength to fight this battle together. Always be on the lookout for ways to live this out, like encouraging your loved one for being strong and brave through various treatments and procedures.
