Even more than who we are and what we say is what we do. The true measure of the services that we provide is that we met and exceeded the expectations of those in our care and their families. Nestled deep within each unique client story is all that our caregivers are making possible – more flexibility, more security, more hope. And while we could just tell you about the kind of work we do, there is nobody better able to speak to the kind of care that BrightStar provides than those we serve on a daily basis.
The Hardy Family would like to nominate our caregiver Linda Reynolds as Caregiver of the year 2016. Our family is working through the challenges of caring for an aging parent with dementia and Linda is an integral part of our family plan.
Linda handles all the grocery shopping and meal planning for our family. She cooks homemade well balanced meals while keeping costs down. She actively seeks to make our dollars stretch, checking for sales and even using her own Costco membership. She always stays within our monthly budget and provides a detailed reconciliation of expenses. If Linda sees a bargain at the store, she often makes purchases for us on her day off.
Linda really goes out of her way to provide special meals for our family and will even start a meal at her own home if the meal is very time consuming. She always does her very best to make our house “a home”.
On a recent visit where our family all met at the house to celebrate a birthday, Linda had the house shining clean and even made the birthday cake for us! She is always looking for ways to help us ease the burden and increase the happiness and well-being of the household.
The challenges of working with a client with dementia cannot be understated. Because of the confusion caused by the disease, everyday tasks become difficult and instructions must often be explained and repeated many times. This is the environment that Linda is working in and she always shows our family patience and kindness.
Our family relies on Linda to be our “eyes and ears” and she does an excellent job keeping us informed on issues in the household. When Linda is on site, we are completely confident that our family is safe and well taken care of. She is 100% dependable, professional, and is flexible when unexpected needs arise.
In summary, Linda consistently provides compassionate care and kindness. She is always looking for ways to help our family and we rely on her more and more. She takes our family member on visits and other errands and we trust her unequivocally with the safety of our loved one.
Even when she is not actively working for us, she is always thinking of us. It is very evident that Linda has a genuine concern and compassion for our family. For these reasons, and so many more, we would be so thrilled if Linda could be recognized for the outstanding care she provides, by being selected as the 2016 Caregiver of the Year.

“Anne Marie Gattari, who opened her own in-home, personal care company for eastside communities, understands the importance of a caring workforce trained in aging and health. A great partner to the Institute of Gerontology in our mission to improve the quality of health care for older adults, Anne Marie
learned the importance of older adults’ needs first hand when she cared for her own aging parents.
She was so inspired by her experiences as a caregiver for her parents that she decided to leave a corporate job in the auto sector to start her own BrightStar agency. Anne Marie’s passion for older adults and attention to detail are just what the field needs.”

“I engaged the services of BrightStar Care for my wife (who has dementia) about four years ago after below standard service from a private caregiver and from a professional caregiver business.
The service from BrightStar has been exceptional. I am employed and must be able to rely on a caregiver to be present every morning when I leave for work. There has never been a time when the regular caregiver missed a day or else I was provided a qualified substitute.
Whenever I call the BrightStar office for a special need or other occasion, the staff is always able to help and is very friendly and professional. A nurse is on duty and has come immediately when my wife needed help. The nurse also makes scheduled visits to check blood pressure and general health. I have never found a billing error in all the time I have been with them. Most important is that I am free to call the head of BrightStar at any time, day or night on her cell phone.
BrightStar assigns a permanent caregiver who gets to know my wife, the food to shop for, how to work the appliances and the location of the many businesses we use, such as the hair salon, favorite restaurants, cleaners and doctor’s offices, etc. For two years the caregiver took my wife to the Beaumont Orthopedic Pool forty five minutes away after a joint replacement. The caregiver is proactive in that she plans activities outside the home. This includes going to SOC, to the mall and the Grosse Pointe Park. She plays different games which help my wife to use her mind. She gives her the exercises I prescribe. When I get home, there is a professional record written of the day’s activities and how my wife did.
I believe that the progression of my wife’s dementia has been considerably slowed because of the professional care she has received.”

“BrightStar Care home health care is truly a first class agency, responsive and receptive to their clients’ needs. From the first day we requested services for the care of our mom, we could see how the passion for their customers and personal commitment to our case was a top priority.
Their team works collaboratively to achieve the goals of their clients, and we were impressed with the recommendations for procedures to add to the quality of our mom’s care: re-arranging home set up, obtaining in-home physicians’ services, wound care nurse, physical therapy, medicinal treatment, etc.
Our team of aides works directly under an RN, who we can openly communicate with at any time. The skilled services BrightStar offer definitely helps to ease the anxieties of caring for a loved one at home.
Thank you BrightStar for being there for mom and us!”

“At the end of June 2013 I called BrightStar Care. And it was like a bright star came out from behind the clouds and shone down on us. I got the help I needed. Sabrina was our caregiver in the morning. She was always gentle with him and knew when his muscles were cramped up from laying in one position all night. She would massage his legs and gently rub lotion on them. Sabrina was very attentive to all of Dave’s needs. Since he couldn’t move his hands, he was continually asking for his eyes or nose to be wiped, or needing a drink of water. Within seconds of Dave asking for help, Sabrina was by his side. And believe me, this happened a lot. And because of his higher probability of choking, any time he coughed she was immediately by his side making sure he was doing all right. She was always quick to assist him. She ran circles around me.
LaShaun was our caregiver in the evening. Dave had all of the same needs at night too. She continually had to get up to readjust his arms or legs. We also had the nightly tube feeding and his last round of medications. All his pills had to be crushed and given to him through the feeding tube. She was also very observant and watched for any episodes of Dave choking.
During the last 10 days of Dave’s life, he did not get out of the hospital bed that we had set up in our living room. Both ladies worked tirelessly to make him feel comfortable. They would bathe him and brush his teeth. He loved when they would brush his hair because it just felt so good for someone to scratch his head. They rubbed lotion on him continuously to make sure his skin did not break down and get bed sores. They changed his bed linens so that he felt clean. They sat by his bed constantly and met his every need.
But it is what they did for me that I appreciate the most. They took so much of the worry off of my shoulders. And I in turn put so much responsibility on their shoulders. But I knew I could do that because I trusted them both so very much. I could rely on them to take care of my husband when I had to run errands or I just needed to rest. Once Dave was in that hospital bed, I knew that I could not care for him properly. I totally depended on Sabrina and LaShaun. And they came through with flying colors. My children and I were so very happy that these two ladies were here with us at that very difficult time.”

“I want to thank the entire staff at BrightStar for their excellent, caring service to our mother. Upon her return from the hospital, my mother needed 24-hour care and I needed to arrange it before returning home to Connecticut. Right from the start, Anne Marie and her staff were responsive and accommodating, addressing our mom’s care needs completely. Thanks for BrightStar, I am able to manage our mother’s care from out of town. Working with BrightStar has made it all so much easier!”
