My husband, Rob, and I opened BrightStar Care in 2012. Providing exceptional home care and excellent customer service is deeply personal for us. We are a family-owned and operated agency - in fact – Rob’s cousin, Jenifer Massie, is our Director of Operations in Lynchburg. From our family and our amazing team, you should expect, and will receive local, personalized, responsive home care.
The impetus in opening BrightStar was our own experience in seeking care for our parents. They wished to remain in their home but we became increasingly worried about their safety and well-being. And so, we reached out for assistance to keep them healthy and safe without needing to move to a senior community.
What we found in senior care was confusing. We had so many questions such as - What is the difference between home care and home health? Does Medicare pay for Home Care? How do we go about purchasing equipment and medical supplies? It was oftentimes difficult to get clear answers and we often received contrary advice.
As we lived in a different state from both sets of parents, arranging for home care long-distance added to our stress and we made many mistakes. Despite our best efforts, we found that our parents rarely received the quality of care we would have liked.
Rob and I also found there to be a lack of care coordination and communication among the various organizations involved in our parents’ care – including physicians, home health agencies (Medicare), private pay home care agencies and hospitals.
We knew there had to be a better way to provide home care services and so founded BrightStar Care. Our mission is to provide all levels of care (companion, personal, skilled) in order to keep our community safe at home. We provide services to all ages – newborns through seniors – and are able to provide high acuity services such as vent-trach care.
