Veteran Spotlight: Edwin Wudyka – Owner, BrightStar Care 🇺🇸
Edwin entered the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1990 under the GI Bill, motivated by a desire to serve his country while pursuing his college education. He completed boot camp in Orlando, Florida, before continuing his training in Gulfport, Mississippi, and later attending “A” School in Port Hueneme, California.
Edwin trained with the Navy’s Construction Battalion (CB’s), where he served as a Heavy Equipment Operator. The CB’s play a critical role in military operations—deploying alongside the Marines to build and prepare infrastructure that allows U.S. air and ground forces to land, operate, and remain mission-ready during times of conflict.
During the Persian Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm, Edwin was activated to full-time duty and stationed at 29 Palms, California. His role was to ensure equipment and operations were war-ready and to support those deployed overseas. Fortunately, he did not have to leave U.S. soil, and the conflict concluded swiftly.
Edwin was honorably discharged in 1994 but has remained deeply committed to the veteran community ever since. Today, he continues that mission through BrightStar Care by providing quality, compassionate care to fellow Veterans through VA-contracted services. He also actively participates in veteran initiatives, including VA honoring and events at the Detroit Athletic Club.
For Edwin, service didn’t end in 1994—it simply took a new form.
