Boise Seniors Embrace Telemedicine and Home Health Care During COVID-19

During the stay at home orders, Idaho seniors have adjusted to telemedicine and have found home health care safe and reliable.

Home health care has become more important than ever during the COVID-19 virus outbreak, especially for Boise elderly and those living with a serious illness. While staying at home is the safest place during the pandemic, our home care team has stepped up to provide a higher level of in-home care to meet strict safety standards and protocols to help fight the virus. During quarantine, doctors in Idaho have adjusted to telemedicine, and hospitals like Saint Alphonsus in Boise now use telemedicine for geriatric and palliative care. While sitting in their living room, Boise seniors are seeing their doctor, and moving forward; they will be more and more likely to connect with doctors online or by phone. Dr. Victor Bartling, Medical Director for the Enhancing Care Initiative at Saint Alphonsus, said, "We're communicating by FaceTime, by Skype and other devices. It's a little challenge to get people to get things set up, but it seems to be working. And, if people aren't comfortable using video conferencing, then we're using telephone calls."

BrightStar Care supports outpatient care, and we work with your doctor to coordinate care. We can even help seniors connect with their doctors using laptops or tablets from home and provide a full range of skilled nursing care in-home to support outpatient care, including the following:

  • Infusion therapy
  • In-home blood draws and injections
  • Medication setup, administration, and oversight
  • Tube, drain, and bag maintenance
