What Is HDL ("Good") Cholesterol?

HDL stands for high-density lipoprotein, often called the "good cholesterol." It helps remove harmful LDL (bad cholesterol) from your bloodstream, lowering your risk of heart disease and stroke.

 Healthy HDL Levels

  • Men (20+): Above 40 mg/dL
  • Women (20+): Above 50 mg/dL
  • Children/Teens: Above 45 mg/dL

Low HDL levels can increase your risk of clogged arteries and heart complications.

🔺 What Can Raise or Lower HDL?

Lowers HDL:
🚬 Smoking
🍔 Poor diet
🍷 Excess alcohol
💊 Some medications

Raises HDL:
🥗 Eating fiber-rich, heart-healthy foods
🚶‍♀️ Regular exercise
🏋️ Maintaining a healthy weight
🚭 Quitting smoking
