A Warm Space for Solo Agers in Alexandria

Aging on your own does not mean aging alone. Many older adults in our community live without a spouse, partner, nearby children, or traditional care partners, and they deserve spaces where they feel seen, supported, and understood.
The Solo Aging Café at The Landing Alexandria is designed just for them. It offers a relaxed, welcoming environment where people can talk openly about solo aging, share ideas, and connect with others who understand what it means to build a support system by choice, not just by family ties.

Why Solo Aging Conversations Matter

More adults are finding themselves aging without a spouse, partner, or nearby family, and many are asking the same questions: Who will check on me? Who will help if I have surgery, get sick, or need support with daily tasks?
Gatherings like the Solo Aging Café help:

  • Reduce isolation and loneliness by building genuine, in-person connections
  • Encourage proactive planning around health, home, and caregiving
  • Help solo agers discover community resources, social groups, and professional support options

These conversations can make it feel easier and less overwhelming to think ahead, ask for help, and create a personal “care circle” built from friends, neighbors, and trusted professionals.

How BrightStar Care of Fairfax Supports Solo Agers

At BrightStar Care of Fairfax, we often work with individuals who are aging on their own and want to stay independent, safe, and comfortable at home. Our role is to provide practical support while also becoming a reliable, familiar presence in their lives.
Depending on each person’s needs and preferences, our in-home care team can help with:

  • Personal care, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming
  • Light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation
  • Medication reminders and help getting to and from appointments
  • Safety supervision, mobility support, and fall-prevention routines
  • Companionship, conversation, and regular check-ins so no one feels alone

Every care plan is guided by a Registered Nurse, which means care can adapt over time as needs change. For solo agers, this kind of steady, professional support can act as an important layer of security and peace of mind.
